Is a tankless water heater worth it in New Hampshire?
For most NH homeowners, yes, especially if you have natural gas. The energy savings of 20-30% on water heating, combined with a 20+ year lifespan (vs. 8-12 for tank), usually means a tankless system pays for itself within 7-10 years. The unlimited hot water is the bonus that most customers appreciate daily. The key factor in NH is proper sizing, our cold inlet water temperature means you need a properly sized unit.
How does cold NH water affect tankless performance?
New Hampshire's groundwater enters your home at around 45-50 degrees F. A tankless heater needs to raise that to 120 degrees F, a 70-75 degree rise. In warmer states, the rise might only be 40-50 degrees. This means NH homeowners need a higher-BTU unit for the same flow rate. Can a tankless water heater handle multiple showers at once?

We primarily install Navien and Rinnai, they're the two most reliable tankless brands we've worked with over 25 years. The Navien NCB-240E and NPE-2S series are excellent choices for NH homes, as are the Rinnai RU160 and RU199. Both brands offer strong warranties and readily available parts.
How much maintenance does a tankless water heater need?
Annual descaling (flushing with vinegar solution) is recommended, especially in areas with hard water. This takes about an hour and costs significantly less than the problems it prevents. We offer annual maintenance plans for tankless systems. Beyond descaling, tankless units need very little maintenance compared to tank systems.
